Located in the center of the Netherlands, Amersfoort is the home of Dierenpark Amersfoort. The zoo is geared towards children and education. This means you’ll be standing on platforms to get to the same height as a Giraffe or children will have to climb in tunnels to get to an enclosure of a bear.
Everywhere are colourful signs telling kids about the various animals. I’m happy to work with Dierenpark Amersfoort for 2 projects which are displayed on this page.
Be sure to visit Dierenpark Amersfoort when you are in the neighbourhood or visit their website www.dierenparkamersfoort.nl
The first project I’ve worked on was several drawings for a ‘Dutch Farm’-themed restaurant which opened two years ago.
The restaurant was housed in an old dutch farm, featuring straw roofing, old windows and an entire farmyard. The yard has seating but also lots of hay and chickens walking around.
A dutch treat are pancakes which are sold in the restaurant. They’re huge and very sweet!
The main assignment for this project was the creation of a colouring placemat for children. Lots of details are included so kids really have to look to see everything. Some items have their name in dutch printed while other items have a little cartoon bubble explaining which product comes from that animal or plant. Educational and fun!

The second project I worked on was the creation for a map. This map has been placed on water rafts for a new attraction.
This attraction lets people follow a route in a small river by peddling the water rafts. During the tour they can see all kinds of animals who usually live near bodies of water. Lemurs can climb over ropes and trees and get really close to the explorers.
The map features the animals you will see during the tour as some educational information. For instance, which tracks the animals make and their behaviour patterns.
It was made in the style of an explorer map. Quickly sketched while the explorer was standing with the animals.
